Hiking Information

Hiking Mt. Rinjani is no easy feat! It requires stamina and mental endurance. That being said, thousands of adventurers summit Mt. Rinjani each year to experience the spectacular views that if offers. While this trek is not long, it is important to be prepared. Even if you are simply hiking to the crater rim, it’s important that you bring the correct gear for this trek. If you plan to summit Mt. Rinjani, you will be reaching 3726 meters. This means, even in the hottest points of the summer, it is can be freezing at the summit. Hiking Rinjani means you should have the appropriate clothing.

Day 01: Arrive at Port or Airport

Travelers usually arrive an Pemenang port via Bali or Gili Islands. Some travelers may arrive via Lombok airport. In both situations, we offer transportation to our homestay in Senaru as part of your package. You will arrive at our homestay and have dinner. You will be able to enjoy beautiful views from our outdoor dining area as well as watch monkeys right below you. You can also walk to Tiu Kelep waterfall which is only 20 minutes by foot. The trail is right in front of our homestay.

Day 02: Hike up to Crater Rim

You will start your day with breakfast and coffee or tea. Depending on if you are hiking from Sembalun or Senaru, you will either start with a short drive to the trail head or a 1 hour drive to Sembalun. This day you will hike all day until late afternoon, stopping for lunch in the middle. We will arrive at the crater rim in the late afternoon where we your porters will already be setting up camp. We will spend the evening enjoying the views from the crater rim & have dinner. We sleep at the crater rim.

Day 03: Hike to the Summit, Lake Sagaru Anak, & Senaru Crater Rim

On the 3rd day, you will wake up at 2:00am for a quick breakfast and then hike to the summit starting at around 2:30am. After summiting, you will come back to crater rim for a big breakfast and then start to descend the to Lake Sagaru Anak. You will rest at the hot springs near the lake and have lunch, and then continue to Senaru crater rim where you will spend the night.

Day 3 Rinjani trek, Segara anak lake and hot spring (2000M) – Senaru crater rim (2641M)

After breakfast we continue our trek around the shore of Lake Segara Anak before commencing our climb out of the crater. The trail is steep and rocky and passes through dense forest. At the Senaru Crater Rim (2,641 m) we pause for lunch and a rest. The crater rim offers views across the lake back toward the summit and a good vantage point of Gunung Baru, the small volcanic cone within the crater of Mount Rinjani. Mount Agung in Bali and the Gili Islands can also be seen from here. We can camp here for the night, or if the wind is cold and we still feel energetic we can continue down the mountain and spend the night at a more sheltered campsite in the forest

Day 5 Rinjani trek, Senaru crater rim (2641M) – senaru village (601M

After breakfast we continue our descent of the mountain, utilising the rest spots of Pos 3, Pos 2 and Pos 1 and stopping for a longer break for lunch along the way. As we descend the mountain the forest becomes thicker and increasingly lush. We arrive in Senaru (601 m) at approximately 1 pm, from where you will be transported to your next destination

What to Expect

You must be quite physically fit if you wish to trek Mount Rinjani.  3 days 2 nights Trekking is one of the most challenging package For novice hikers, the easier 2D1N Senaru Crater Rim Trekking hike might be a better option

  • Day one: Duration 10km (the average hiking time 7-8 hours)
  • Day two: Duration 10,9km (the average hiking time 10-11 hours (including summit hike)
  • Day three: Duration 9,2km (the average hiking time 5-6 hours)
  • Temperatures at Sembalun & Senaru campsites at night around 10 degrees
  • Temperatures at Rinjani Summit at night around 6-7 degrees

What guests should bring
Please refer to our equipment list and packing guide. As the porters and guides carry the camping and cooking equipment, you should be able to carry everything you personally need in a 30-40L day-pack.
